Note: Due to the Curtin end of year closedown period we will not be able to process any BYO applications submitted after 5.00pm on Tuesday 18 December until the new year. Any applications submitted over the close down period will be assessed and actioned upon our return on the week of 7 January, with assessments and enrollments expected to be confirmed from 16 January 2019. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Students have the opportunity to source their own internships and request approval to be enrolled as part of the internship unit. Enrolment into the unit is not possible without an approved internship.

If you have sourced your own internship make sure you check through the information below to ensure the MKTG3009 Business Internship Unit is suitable for you.

You must have your internship approved BEFORE you start your internship. We do not give retrospective credit for the unit. Please do not start your internship until it has been approved.

Assessment of your BYO Internship can take between 10 – 14 business days. There are assessments related to the unit, the timelines and due dates will depend upon the study period you are enrolled into.

Once you have applied we will check your study plan and ensure that you are eligible to undertake the MKTG3009 Business Internship Unit for credit within your degree.

Before apply, please ensure:

  • Your internship is confirmed for between 100 – 150 hours
  • The placement must be undertaken within a safe office environment
  • Your potential supervisor is willing to complete an appraisal of your performance. This is very important as that goes towards your final grade. The appraisal will only take about 10 minutes. The university may contact your supervisor during the placement for a progress update. Download an example Host Organisation Appraisal Form
  • You have all the relevant documentation to attach to your application (listed below)

Make sure you supply all requested documents and complete all required fields. Once we have made our assessment we will inform you of the outcome and you will be enrolled into the next available relevant study period.

Below is a list of documentation you will require to apply:

  • Detailed Position Description

  • Fieldwork Agreement Form
This must be signed by a representative at your Host Organisation. The University covers your workplace insurances (Personal Accident and Public Liability) during your unpaid internship. This agreement, is the mechanism that allows this. Your Host Organisation needs to review and sign the agreement, your internship will not be approved without it.
