Join Curtin Business School’s 10-day professional experience study tour to Silicon Valley and other Californian start-up, business and education hotspots.
If you are a current Curtin postgraduate student, an undergraduate student* or a business professional looking to learn more about international business, innovation and entrepreneurship, you’re invited to apply!

Why Silicon Valley?

A third of all venture capital investment in the US is pumped into Silicon Valley. This makes it one of the most high-profile start-up ecosystems for innovation and scientific development in the world.

What will I learn?
Join our tour and learn from passionate senior executives about how their companies continue to grow globally, participate in interactive workshops facilitated by some of the world’s top universities, and gain insights into how Silicon Valley’s entrepreneurial culture champions innovation.

• 10 days (9 nights) hotel accommodation.
• Visits to at least two innovation giants, such as Apple, Google or Facebook.
• Visits to Stanford University and University of California campuses.
• Free-time activities, including opportunities to visit cultural and historical sites, dance salsa and attend a beach party.
• Entrance fees for all scheduled activities as part of the tour.
• All meals, and tips.
• Transfers to and from San Francisco International Airport

Planned program

Day 1: Arrive San Francisco

  • Transfer to hotel and check-in.
  • Orientation and icebreakers.
  • Day to rest.

Day 2: Stanford and Palo Alto

  • Workshops at Stanford University.
  • Dinner with Stanford business leader in Palo Alto.
  • Walk downtown Palo Alto in the evening.

Day 3: Stanford and Silicon Valley

  • Morning Q&A with a start-up founder.
  • Visit the headquarters of Facebook, Google or a similar organisation.
  • Dinner in Silicon Valley.

Day 4: Silicon Valley

  • Morning workshop with a Silicon Valley business manager.
  • Visit Apple Park or the headquarters of another innovation giant.
  • Dinner in Silicon Valley.

Day 5: Stanford and San Jose

  • Workshops at Stanford University.
  • Dinner in San Jose.
  • Live music in the evening.

Day 6: Berkeley

  • Workshops and guided tour of University of California, Berkeley.
  • Lunch with students from the Haas School of Business at the university.
  • Dinner in Berkeley.

Day 7: San Francisco

  • Visit a San Francisco start-up.
  • Visit Embarcadero, Union Square, Pier 39, the Golden Gate Bridge and other tourist attractions.
  • Dinner in San Francisco with a prominent venture capitalist.
  • Salsa dancing in the evening.

Day 8: San Francisco

  • Workshops with prominent entrepreneurs.
  • Free-time in the afternoon.
  • Dinner with a venture capitalist.

Day 9: Santa Cruz

  • Workshops, and guided tour of University of California, Santa Cruz.
  • Beach party and city tour of Santa Cruz, OR visit a Santa Cruz start-up in the afternoon.
  • Dinner in Santa Cruz.
  • Ceremony and certificates.

Day 10: Depart San Francisco

  • Transfer to San Francisco International Airport for return flight.

Scholarships Available

The CBS Executive Education team are offering two partly funded scholarships for CBS Alumni, including CBS Ignition Alumni, to attend the Silicon Valley tour.

These $5000 scholarships will go towards the Tour price. Scholarship recipients will be responsible for the remaining payment and for arranging and paying for their own visa and travel insurance.

A panel of cross-discipline Curtin staff will determine the scholarship recipients. The Curtin panel’s decision will be final, with no correspondence entered into.
