Dr George J. Gilboy
George J. Gilboy is Vice President Business Environment and Chief Economist at Woodside Energy Ltd. Based in Perth, he leads a group responsible for global macroeconomic forecasting, economic and geopolitical risk assessment, energy scenario analysis, and investment analysis.
Dr. Gilboy was Woodside’s Country Manager and Chief Representative in China from April 2005 to January 2014. Before joining Woodside, Gilboy was the head of Strategy and Planning for Shell Gas & Power in China from 2002 to 2005. Prior to joining Shell, he established the consulting practice for Cambridge Energy Research Associates in China, a business he led from 1997 to 2002. From 1995 to 1997 he was a visiting scholar at Tsinghua University and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing.
Dr. Gilboy is the co-author of Chinese and Indian Strategic Behavior: Growing Power and Alarm (Cambridge University Press, 2012). His publications have appeared in Foreign Affairs, The National Interest, Current History, The Washington Quarterly, Bungei Shunju (Japanese: Literature Salon), Er Shi Yi Shi Ji Shang Ye Ping Lun (Chinese: 21st Century Business Review), and Jingji Yanjiu (Chinese: Economic Research). He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a B.A. in political science from Boston College.
