Mr Darren Grondal
Darren is a commercial lawyer who advises corporate clients in the energy, oil & gas, linear infrastructure, resources and transport & logistics sectors. He has repeatedly been recognised by independent legal directories as one of Australia’s leading lawyers in the areas of competition, energy and natural resources.
With over 16 years experience as a lawyer and another 15 in commercial roles, Darren has a long and successful track record. His experience has included advising on major projects, contracts and regulatory issues across the rail and port, LNG, natural gas, electricity and transport industries, in Australia and other Asian jurisdictions. He regularly advises on statutory interpretation, administrative law, economic and market regulation, and commercial law (including contract drafting and negotiation).
Darren is recognised for his expertise in competition law and infrastructure access regulation. His work in competition law covers all forms of restrictive trade practices (eg cartels, M&A, misuse of market power, exclusive dealing, RPM and anti-competitive arrangements). His experience in access regulation is extensive, ranging across both Federal and State based regimes and across rail, port, electricity and gas infrastructure.
Darren regularly advises on consumer law issues under the Australian Consumer Law and industry specific regimes. He has particular experience in reviewing advertising and marketing campaigns and material, advising on misleading or deceptive conduct and drafting contracts in line with the Unfair Contracts Regime.
Darren also has substantial experience in corporate compliance. He has given general compliance training, developed detailed compliance programs (including for the purposes of addressing the requirements of Court enforceable undertakings and ring fencing obligations), and acting in related legal proceedings.
Before co-founding Grondal Bruining, Darren was a Partner of the global law firm, Ashurst (previously Blake Dawson), for over 11 years in its Energy Resources and Infrastructure team.
